MARCH MEETING AT DOWNTOWN PIZZA
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Let me thank those members that came out last month for our meeting. We had a good turn-out for the Clay County Sheriff’s department, and I must say that these gentlemen were two great guest speakers. Chief Deputy Todd Wingate and Deputy Bruce Moore were very knowledgeable and genuine men. Deputy Moore is a firearms instructor and had just recently completed additional training. Their presentations were very much to the point, and unlike most law enforcement officers, they answered the member’s questions as if it were the officer’s family that might have been in danger. Their answers were straight forward and to the point, no beating around the bush or waffling with their replies. Again it was very refreshing to see officers communicate the way they did.
I know that we mentioned some time back that a representative with the Ga. DNR would be our guest speaker for the month of April. Unfortunately work has forced him to cancel with a promise to make a later meeting date. Due to his cancelation, Joe has arranged for Dominic Barbanera to join us. Dominic is a former police and narcotics officer, and is currently a Town’s County Fire and Rescue responder.
In closing, we look forward to seeing you on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, at 7:00pm, at Downtown Pizza.
Respectfully,
Jeff Gustason

Guests this evening were chief deputy Todd Wingate and patrol deputy Bruce Moore from the Clay County Sheriff’s department. The subject this evening was concealed carry permits in North Carolina. If you wish to carry a concealed carry handgun in NC you must carry your permit and a valid form of identification with you at all times. Inform the officer that you are in possession of a concealed handgun. Present both the permit and valid identification at the request of the officer. You should not attempt to display either your weapon or your permit unless directed to by an officer.Â
In NC, concealed handguns may not be carried in law enforcement or correctional facilities such as a prison/ in any space occupied by state or federal employees, including state and federal courthouses/ in schools or on school grounds/in areas of assemblies, parades, funerals or demonstrations/ in any area where concealed handguns are prohibited by federal law/ in any place of business that has posted a sign banning concealed weapons on its premises/ by any person while consuming alcohol or while under the influence of alcohol, or any controlled substances (unless obtained legally and taken as directed by a physician.)Â Â
A NC concealed carry permit is valid for five years unless it is revoked. The permit is also recognized in 38 states. There is a great app that can be downloaded from the app store or google play called Legal Heat. The app is free and lists gun rules and regulations for every state.Â
Sincerely,Â
John Mattox
Secretary
